On 10th July the Secretary of State (SoS) for Northern Ireland, the Rt Hon Hilary Benn, spent time at the Royal Ulster Constabulary GC Foundation. He met the chairman, Stephen White, and heard about the Foundation’s role and recent achievements.
The SoS took time to visit the RUC GC Memorial Garden where he learned about the RUC’s history, the sacrifices paid by its officers and their families and how the Foundation commemorates the Force’s achievements. He was briefed on its many support, outreach and engagement strategies and its future plans.
He met Mr Rab Gardiner who does a wonderful job of planting, maintaining and developing the Garden. Stephen presented the SoS with a signed copy of a book produced by the Foundation titled, “Marking the Sacrifices and Honouring the Achievements of the RUC GC” and thanked him for taking the time he spent learning about the Foundation’s important mandate.
